By Ali Waqar, Mansab Dogar, Arshad Dogar and Hina Farooq LAHORE: Rooftops were filled with kite flyers on Basant Day (Sunday) in spite of the overcast weather conditions. The sky was dotted with colourful kites and shouts of Bo Kata were heard accompanying the sounds of drums. Women appeared to enjoy the celebrations more than men and bright coloured clothing including the traditional yellow was clearly visible.
Houses in several areas of the city, including Mustafabad, Gulberg III, Main Boulevard, Ichhra, Township, Green Town and the Walled City were decorated with kites and balloons. Families were seen enjoying the festivities on their rooftops. Earlier, Basant Night celebrations had continued late into the night.
These included musical and cultural shows, dance parties and dinners. Basant was celebrated at several clubs with members and guests flying kites and enjoying the food and music arranged for them. Programmes for children, including face painting were also organised.
The Gymkhana Club had directed its members to adhere to a dress code for the occasion. Girls were required to wear the colours pink or yellow and boys to wear only shalwar kamees. Stalls carrying mehndi, traditional food, games, kites and bangles had been set up.
The celebrations in the club began with a fireworks display. No one was allowed to photograph the event.
