Three cheers and a big swig of Diet Mountain Dew – my favorite – for Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s new car number. The 8 would have been nice, but we knew that wasn’t going to happen.

The double 8 is a nice alternative and is relatively convenient for all those folks with 8 tattoos. It’s just a little more work for the tattoo artists. The car design, though?

Not a classic. A little too busy for my taste. Too many sponsors trying to crowd into not enough space.

And the colors aren’t exactly vibrant, either. The design isn’t ugly, as some Internet interlopers have charged, but it could be better.
