All arrangements are in place to have the FACETS Sri Lanka 2007 the premier International Gem and Jewellery Show of Sri Lanka from 30th August to 2nd September 2007 at the BMICH, for the 17th year running. Chanaka Ellawala, Chairman, Sri Lanka Gem Jewellery Association addressing the stall holders of the Exhibition held last week at Hotel Taj Samudra to explain as to how any problems encountered by the booth holders to be solved said that Facets 2007 is the most important event in the Sri Lanka Gem and Jewellery Calendar where more than 1,000 foreigners visit in addition to the large number of locals. He said that this Show was earlier held at the Hilton Hotel, but due to large number of visitors and the due to the growing number of stall holders they had to move to a much larger venue and selected the BMICH.
He said that the Gem and Jewellery export sector is doing extremely well in 2006 and in the first half of 2007. This major Show offers an opportunity to the exhibitors to present their products to the world. He said that the other important factor is that there are lot of retailers participating and that would enable the average people to visit and make their purchases of jewellery.
Ajith Perera, National Gem and Jewellery Authority said that they have been with Facets throughout giving the major support along with the Export Development Board and 2006 is an excellent year for the Gem and Jewellery industry where exports have grown by 23 percent over the previous year where Rs 44.9 billion compared to Rs 36.5 billion in 2005.
