Yesterday I'm thinking I really must do something about trying to get Kylie to endorse my book, and what falls out of the post this morning but her book although the cover I'm looking at is Kylie sitting on a sparkling moon (the one showing on Amazon is more full-blown Barbie). Anyhow, the book's about a girl called Kylie who wakes up, and it's her big day ahead, she's going to be a pop princess on a stage, and everything will be perfect. And it is, except her show shoes get lost, as does her dog, but it's all sorted out in the end.
Illustrated like a Barbie Annual, by someone called Swan Park (and isn't that a name any showgirl would kill for?), with the bonus of actual Kylie photographs - she has a really nice smile. The story's ok, the language is not that leaden, lots of acknowledgement of Team Kylie and how performance is a group effort.
The pop star photos are what'll make this an appreciated gift, though. So anyhow, in my other guise as children's books critic and children's author interviewer for the Guardian I call Adele Minchin, the Puffin PR, just to check Kylie's interview schedule and whether I'm on it or not, and I say you have to give me credit for getting my request in early, the book's not actually published till tomorrow..
.but it's ok, she isn't doing any interviews for the book, so it's not like I'm not getting an interview just because I'm the last journalist on the planet to be asking..
. However, made me send off "Take Off Your Party Dress" emails Kylie-wards anyhow. So we shall see.
