HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION: Court papers give a grisly tour of Grant home

April 28, 2007
Investigators found tiny spatters of blood on the walls, the bathroom floor, in the bedroom and in the wine cellar.
Then there was the torso, still dressed in a blood-soaked blouse, black bra, panties and fragments of dress pants in a bin labeled "boy clothes" in the garage.
Those are among the findings inside Stephen and Tara Lynn Grant's Washington Township home, according to investigative reports released Friday by the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office.

The reports, which include documents from an evidence technician, the Emmet County Sheriff's Department and Michigan State Police, give new details about investigators' findings into the missing-person-turned-homicide case that gripped metro Detroit and made national news.
Much in the reports seems to corroborate Stephen Grant's confession to police, during which he said he strangled his wife, dragged her body downstairs, dismembered her at his father's tool-and-die shop, then distributed her remains in a nearby park.
It matches other details Grant told police: that he was drinking Jack Daniel's as he fled metro Detroit, that he had bought a cap gun to fool police in hopes of a suicidal shoot-out and that he'd taken prescription medication during his run from the law.

When Grant was arrested March 3 while hiding beneath a pine tree in deep snow, his speech was slurred, Emmet County sheriff reports say. Grant told deputies he believed he was in Lansing.
He actually was near Petoskey in northern Michigan.

In addition to the documents, Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith released a video of investigators' foray into the Grants' colonial-style home as they executed a search warrant three weeks after Grant reported his wife missing Feb. 14.
The bedrooms of the couple's children -- a pink room for 6-year-old Lindsay and green-and-white for 4-year-old Ian -- were strewn with toys, their dresser drawers open.

The couple's bedroom and master bathroom, where the slaying allegedly took place, also was searched. The video shows the beige-carpeted stairs that Grant told authorities he'd dragged his wife's body down before storing it overnight in the back of her Isuzu Trooper.
Video footage of the garage and the discovery of the torso wasn't released.

Nor were reports from the county medical examiner, who determined that Tara Grant had been choked to death, based on bruising around her neck.
The documents are among more than 600 pages gathered so far by the prosecutor's office. Smith already had released about 230 pages to the media -- including a transcription of Grant's four-hour confession.

Legal experts have criticized Smith's decision to release the documents, saying it could taint a potential jury pool. Smith has said he's complying with Michigan's Freedom of Information laws.
Stephen Grant, 37, faces charges of first-degree murder and mutilating a body.

His preliminary exam is set for May 15.
Why does the media dwell on the insanity? some behavein a manner as though the are little kids squeeling to their parents and want the parents to do something about the problem.

Why does the media have to put up the picture of killers or those who are already captured? What purpose does this serve? The media should have some ome to over see the stories BEFORE they a released and ask the questions to them selves as to WHAT is the purpose, what are the benifits, and is the story positve or negative.

I notice that all of you who are so appalled that the Freep is reporting all the morbid details - You are still interested in reading it. It is disgusting to read but because we are all human - we are attracted to others pain - supposedly makes us feel better about ourselves. Why else read it.

Sad

Dear Free Press,

Here's an idea for a couple of hundred articles or so. You can take your serial approach to 'reporting' to the next level by giving us the scoop on what it's like to be Steven Grant's new bride. You do of course realize that you and he have become 'one' in unholy matrimony; don't you?

? Take us for a thrill ride Freep, and give us all of the details. I know you're still in the infatuation phase of the relationship, so mostly you'll just be yammering as senselessly a 19 year old nanny, but we're patient and willing to wait for you to find the right words.

Speaking of nannies, how nice for you that the au pair and Tara are out of the way so you could make your move. This is your honeymoon with your bug-eyed bread winner! Don't hold back Freep; take us along on your roller coaster ride of twisted tidbits and sordid details.

Ignore that post admonishing you to leave Tara alone. She never deserved him like you do! You just feel free to say anything you like about her.

Get her back out of that tote anytime you like. That's the convenience of storage totes; isn't that right Mrs. Grant?

? And Freep, I know you feel slighted because you can't use film footage like those bastards on TV, the ones that are trying to steal your man, but don't worry. Words and still photos will do fine for you to tell your story.

Oooh! I just can't wait!

This sure looks like a court case for the Court TV Channel,I wonder if they can find an unbiased jury pool in the that area with all the publicity about the case,Grant should have just pointed that cap gun at the police and recieved the penalty that truly fits his crime, now he will just get his three squares a day and free medical for the rest of his life.

I hate to point out the obvious, but has it ever occurred to any of you geniuses that are supposedly so sick of this topic that MAYbe if no one commented on this story at all it would go away?? Or are you all a bunch of narcissists with so little self-control that you just HAVE to give your point of view?

Especially all the juvenile comments about the au pair...

Rolling Eyes

Thats what I thought.
