ARLINGTON -- The Arlington Highlands is filling up with tenants, many of which are getting ready to open this spring.
Tenants on the way include a student resource center for the University of Phoenix, perhaps a Cantina Laredo restaurant and lots of new stores.
The Highlands, Arlington's newest large shopping center, is under construction near Matlock Road and Interstate 20.

Shops such as PetSmart, Staples, Jo-Ann Fabric and Crafts, and Shoe Pavilion started opening in October.
Cantina Laredo. The sit-down Mexican restaurant is in negotiations for an Arlington site, said Bill Watson, spokesman for Dallas-based Consolidated Restaurant Operations.

The Arlington Highlands is "a development of interest," he said. Watson said the company would like to open an Arlington restaurant by the end of the year.
University of Phoenix.

The school wants to build a resource center for its students that will be closer than its campus in Las Colinas, said Brent Fitch, vice president. Half the school's 300,000 students complete their course work online. This new center, like one the university is planning in Plano, will be a meeting place for online and on-campus students, Fitch said.

They can work on projects together, study or get help with research. The University of Phoenix specializes in business, education, healthcare, technology, and social and behavioral science. The university has tailored its programs over the years to be more convenient for working adults, including online learning programs.

The store will be larger than the one at University Village shopping center in Fort Worth, said Michael Smith, vice president of investor and community relations for the parent company.
Cold Stone Creamery. The ice cream and frozen dessert shop is planning an early summer opening, said Jami Clark, spokeswoman for the Arizona-based company.

Genghis Grill. The Dallas-based chain, which serves Mongolian-style stir-fry, plans to open in June.
WineStyles.

The wine store will open around April 8, said Josh Abelson, owner of franchises in Fort Worth and Mansfield with his wife, Charlotte. He said he likes the shop's location near the Borders bookstore under construction because many people who like to read also like wine. The foot traffic at the shopping center added to the Abelsons' interest in the center.

Tio's Tortas. The Mexican sandwich shop plans to open no later than the middle of June, said Jeff Murray, one of the owners. The others are Lex Berlin and Pat Shelby, who have one other location in Dallas.

The restaurant will serve sandwiches such as ham, turkey and sausage, and chile rellenos and margarita-marinated chicken. The sandwiches are served on Mexican bread and with specially made condiments, such as chipotle ketchup and jalape o mustard.
Gloria's plans to open its Salvadoran restaurant in May, according to the company.

Arlington Highlands is a 910,000-square-foot shopping center developed by The Retail Connection of Dallas. The lifestyle center plans to open a second phase in the spring.

For 14 years, Jana Holland has taken pieces of furniture and given them a new style with her own artistry.
Recently, she opened Collected Treasures at 406 W. Main St.

in downtown Arlington.
Holland selects the pieces one at a time and gives them a face-lift.
"I take things that people have really discarded and give them a second life," she said.

Her enthusiasm spreads to the building she now occupies, which she refurbished.
The furniture is for all areas of the house, which Holland says she gives a romantic, Victorian feel.
