TORONTO - Nearly 300 works representative of 20th-century Italian art and design will be on display at the Royal Ontario Museum in an exhibition running Oct. 28 to Jan. 7.

The objects range from the iconic - a 1955 Vespa scooter - to the luxurious, such as a diamond and platinum brooch designed by Bulgari and jewelry created by the House of Buccellati.
Italian Arts and Design: the 20th century also includes furniture, glass, textiles, ceramics, paintings, sculpture, photography and architectural drawings.
"The 20th century represents an extraordinary story of achievement in Italian design," the museum says.

"Through a great period of industrialization and technological innovation, Italy developed its regional and craft-based tradition, leading the way in international industrial design."
After its Toronto run the exhibition moves to the Museo Mart in Rovereto, Italy, beginning in March. It appeared at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts this past summer.
