PC Sharon Beshenivsky, 38, is seen to slump into a doorway as the gunman fires on PC Teresa Milburn, then 37, outside a travel agency in Bradford, West Yorkshire. As two community officers who were standing nearby dash to their assistance, the suspects run away in the opposite direction. Robert Smith QC, prosecuting, told Newcastle Crown Court: PC Milburn heard the gun fire.
She had a very clear view of the Asian man and saw his hand stretched out in front of him and pointing towards Pc Beshenivsky. She saw him move the handgun towards her and then the Asian male shot her. She heard the bang and felt immense pain and knew immediately she had been shot.
Both officers were wearing body armour, but PC Beshenivsky, who tried to duck the bullet, had no chance of survival because of its positioning. Robert Smith QC, prosecuting, said: The shooting was deliberate, it was callous and unnecessary and with the intention of killing both officers. Muzzaker Shah, 25, denies the attempted murder of PC Milburn, but admits the murder of PC Beshenivsky, robbery, possession of two prohibited weapons - a Mac 10 sub machine gun and a 9mm pistol - and two further counts of possessing them with intent to endanger life.
Yusuf Jama, 20, from Small Heath, Birmingham, admits robbery, but denies murder and the four firearms offences. Raza ul-Haq Aslam, 25, from Kentish Town, London, Hassan Razzaq, 26, and his brother Faisal, 25, both of Forest Gate, London, deny murder, robbery and the four firearms offences.
