If you have a desire for the finer things, take a short drive up to Sonora and shop at Tedford Jewelry in the recently State of Texas-designated “Main Street” city’s historic downtown. John and Del Tedford’s jewelry business has been booming since 1975, with customers all over the World. John Tedford attributes his store’s success to their long-standing credibility in the business.

“You need to know your jeweler and your jeweler needs to know its suppliers. All of the jewelry wholesalers we deal with have been in business for 100 years or more,” he said. The Tedfords have a long list of custom fine jewelry designers who can make your engagement or anniversary ring more than perfect.

But the Tedford’s don’t sell only fine jewelry, diamonds, rings, necklaces, watches, and bracelets. They also carry most lines of fine china, stemware, and silverware from well-known brands such as Lenox, Noritake, and Waterford. And they sell a good quantity of it.

So much so, that Waterford awarded the store one of only fifty limited edition Waterford Bar Trunks for their inventory. “Neimen-Marcus has only one for sale and so do we, in Sonora, Texas” Tedford quipped.
“The trunk commemorates way of life in the 19th century.

Then, people made multiple trips across the Atlantic, and they brought with them multiple trunks for different purposes,” Tedford explained. One trunk may carry the lady’s clothes, another the man’s. “And some trunks held a completely outfitted bar, like this one.

” He said, pointing to the prized addition to the store that has just arrived the previous week.
Authentic details of the trunk include brass latches, leather trim and elegant taupe linen exterior. Amid the hand-finished Rosewood interior you will discover an incomparable collection of the world s finest crystal barware, wine tasting stemware, sterling silver bar tools and elegant canapé plates.

The price is $16,000 for the entire package.
John and Del Tetford are both accomplished musicians. John, who studied piano, music theory, composition and organ at Southern Methodist University, met Del there where she also was studying piano.

After college John produced and conducted musicals in Dallas for eleven years. “My career was at a point where I was going to have to relocate to New York City, but our children were growing fast and we decided to return to Sonora instead,” John said. His love of classical music catapulted his taste into fine art of the 18th, 18th and 20th century, and he provides a selection of fine art at the store.

John is also passionate about fine china, which he sees as an extension of his appreciation of fine art. “I appreciate design of the past three centuries,” he said.
A unique line of china he carries is by Mottahedeh.

“It is just meticulously reproduced fine china,” Tedford said. “Mildred Mottahedeh wanted fine things to be accessible to everyone,” Tedford explained. “And she created the fine china company to create reproductions of dinnerware pieces based upon the patterns at some of the finest museums in the World.

Tedford is also a fan of Lynn chase, a modern designer of fine china who has funded the Chase Wildlife Foundation with proceeds of the sale of her fine china. The Tedfords carry a large selection.
John is passionate about enjoying the finer things in life, and he believes fine china and a formal meal every now and then can be therapeutic, and it doesn’t have to be expensive.

Nor do you need to purchase a different set of china for the Christmas season.
“I suggest that every family buy a good set of china that is beautiful and magnificent. Then you can accessorize it, in good taste, and dress it for the seasons.

Mix things; use anything beautiful. Everyone is an artist down deep inside. Be creative!
