NEWPORT - Newport Central Catholic students are acting, painting backgrounds and tap dancing until their feet are sore in preparation for their annual play.
Students are currently rehearsing for "42nd Street," about a Broadway production set in post-Depression times.
"We like to do things that aren't commonly done," said Director Kevan Brown.
The show has a huge tap dancing element, which Brown said was a challenge because only seven students had previous tap dancing experience.
To help the other 48 students in the cast, Brown brought in two choreographers.
"I am loving this experience," said tenth grader Alyssa Woltermann, who plays Dorothy Brock, one of the leading roles.
"I'm having so much fun."
For the past two years eleventh grader Renee Kling has acted in the play, but this year she decided to work behind the scenes as the stage manager.
"It's been really interesting to see the play develop from the other side," Kling said.
