MY WORLD IS STILL CRAZY: Musiq Analysis (Part I)

Even though I was the first to do it, I have decided that it would be best to pass the "Taboo Thursday" torch to someone else. In its place, I'd like to introduce a new segment - Music Analysis. Each week, I will use the songs of a music artist as a soundtrack to a story that I will make up.

Ironically enough, this all started out as a conversation I was having with my and grew into what you are about to read.

With the release of his new single, "Buddy", there is an ongoing joke on radio stations in New York City that Musiq Soul.child is scared of committment.

Whether or not that is true, we will never know, but if it is, he has justified it over the years through his songs. Don't believe me? Check this out:

Musiq has been in love once.

He tells us about her in his song "Womanopoly":

Yo listen
I met this girl on Baltic Ave.
And you can tell how she steps on Boardwalk,
she was from Park Place
I asked her what she was doing on this side of town
She said she had some taxes to pay
I figured I'd take a chance and advance to go
And find out more about her cause there's more to know
than the ways she sways
And the way she that she wears her clothes,
or the way that she plays this game so cold
She said she came up rough
And the one income household was not enough
There'd be nights she'd go to sleep cold and hungry
Cause her mom was always short on food and money
See people used to joke alot
Tease her bout her clothes not being in style
Dressed in dingy skirts and dirty sneakers,
From the finest second hand down on Oriental Ave.

Chorus
But now look at her
She got this game on lock
Anything that she ever wanted
Now she got it
And I gotta say Im so proud to see
That someone like her is in control
Womanopoly

They hit it off real well that first night.

So well that they ended up . . .

well . . .

you know . . .

we're all adults here, I don't have to say it. The next morning, he had this to say:

I never thought on the first night
You would bare what you hold so dear to life
And share with me all your innermost fantasies baby
And afterwards in my arms you cried
Had me feeling some kind of way on the inside
Then I knew it was going to be me and you

Hook:
So if the no one was to believe that what we share was meant to be
Then it would be just you and me against the world
And if our friends and family if our friends and family
Can't bear to see us both happy
Then it will be just you and me against the world, yeah

Great sex generally leads to bad relationships. Especially if the sex comes too soon.

This relationship was no differentThe relationship started out pretty well, but then the truth revealed its ugly head. The WOMAN he thought he had, turned out to be the girl he wished he never met:

Five foot seven with light green eyes
Body built like a woman over twenty-five
Plus she push the whip that the average women couldn't get
Less she worked about two nine to five's
Girly played the game just a little too mature
She damn near had everything I was looking for
But things seemed shady
When I asked my lady to meet at the club
She had trouble at the door
That's when I found out that
(Ohh)
She was only seventeen years old
And I couldn't see her no more
(Ohh)

(Chorus):
I ain't tryin to see myself locked up
For knockin up some young joan
(Ohh)
How could I explain this situation to my family
And all of my boys
(Ohh)
I'm sorry shorty
But you've got to get gone
Yeah

(Verse 2)
I tried to cut her off
But she wasn't having it
She kept telling me her age didn't mean sh--
And that's when she started to cry
Baby I need you in my life
And without you I just couldn't handle it
So what's a brother to do
(Ohh)
Either way I lose
(So)
I could just say my peace
Or piss off her peeps
Or talk it out with the boys in blue
Cause when it comes down to it
(Ohh)
She was just seventeen years old
And I was dead wrong from the door
(Ohh)

Just when you thought things couldn't get worse:

Conversation:
Yo Zac, I got something to tell you
Aight wassup?
I'm late
You late
Yeah
What you mean, I mean you late for work or something?

No, I'm late
Aight, you late or you late, late
I'm late,late
Word?
Yeah, word.

Laying here just contemplating how
Life would be if I settle down with you
Cause the thing I fear yeah
Is going on with us right now
And the crazy thig is I don't really know how I feel about it

Chorus
What went on with you and I
Was only planned for just a night
But it seems like something much more was made of it
(and oh girl) So whatever you decide is just whatever you decide
And I'm a have to be alright and just roll with it

Now listen here baby
I don't meadn to scare you but I
See I'm not really ready for a child
In my life right now
And let's keep it real girl
You don't really know me and I
I've only known you for a little while
So I guess we got a lot of things to figure out

I'm having mixed feelings bout it cause
The idea of it sounds kinda nice but
We both gotta be clear about what it was
Cause we can't say that it happened out of love
Now I know I know you really want to keep it baby
So I support you and I'm always gonna be here babe
For our baby
To make sure that he or she doesn't grow up and make the same mistake that we made

Chorus

Listen, You know how people are you know there gonna talk s***
So be prepared cause we doing this regardless
Of what my mother say or what your father say
We just gotta make sure we on the same page
Cause this is ours it involves nobody else
Don't get me wrong we can always use a little help
But honestly all we got is each other
And the fact is Im the father and you're the mother of this kid

Chorus
(So let's deal with it.

Make no mistakes about it let's be real with it. If anybody gotta problem I'm a deal with it. Don't worry baby nooooo.

And Im cool with whatever you decide to do or not. And I promise everythings gonna be alright. Cause I'm always gonna be here for my baby's life, even if we ain't together)

Next week, we will continue to analyze the lyrics of Music Soul.

child and see how the traumatic events of this relationship have effected him in future endeavors.
