Authorities keeps watch over firefighting fatigue

The Country Fire Authority (CFA) says it is mindful of fatigue among crews helping to battle campaign fires in the north-east and Gippsland.
Hundreds of volunteers and paid staff have been sent from central Victoria to the fire ground in the past seven weeks.
CFA region two operations manager Mike Wassing says it is a balancing act to ensure the workload is shared and crews are fresh to respond when needed.


He says firefighters are coping remarkably well.
"They are very resilient people and the whole basis of particularly 'volunteerism' is about helping your mates, whether they're in another part of the state or in just the nearby community," he said.
"They continue to step up to the mark and do what they do best.
