CANTON TWP. The question of whether male students should be able to wear earrings was brought before the Canton Local Board of Education Monday night by members of the dress code committee. The students representing the committee argued that males wearing earrings are not a distraction to learning as they once might have been since about half of the male student body has an earring.
The students showed examples of typical female earrings, which included dangling earrings and red-and-white striped hoop earrings to illustrate that the earrings females tend to wear are far more distracting than the styles male students now wear outside of school. The board will vote on the language change in the dress code at its next meeting, scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
