TULSA, Okla. Miss America Lauren Nelson of Lawton says today that the toughest question she's faced since winning the crown came from a 6-year-old kid in Philadelphia.
As Nelson recounts, the child asked her what she was doing to combat global warming.
She responded that she was riding her bike and asked what the child was doing. The child conceded that Nelson's answer was a good one.
In an interview with The Associated Press, the 20-year-old aspiring Broadway star also talked about flipping pancakes for 6 hours at a fundraiser, learning how to live out of two suitcases and what it's like to have strangers stop her on the street and gasp, "It's really you!
"
Yesterday, she arrived at the Tulsa International Airport for a welcome-home celebration. It is the first time she's spent extended time in Oklahoma since winning the tiara in January.
Nelson says she's taking advantage of every minute she's in her home state.
Events are scheduled in Tulsa, Oklahoma City and Lawton through Monday.
