Wall Street had been expected a same-store sales gain of 2.7 percent, according to a Reuters survey.


Sales at its namesake stores fell 6 percent due to unfavorable weather, and its inability to turn shoppers browsing in its stores into customers, a extended into early January, hurting sales of winter clothing. Temperatures fell later in the month, but many retailers had already started clearance sales to move out winter merchandise and replace it with spring collections.
Sales at the company's Disney stores rose 27 percent, helping to offset declines at its Children's Place Stores.


the five weeks ended Feb. 3 from $87 million for the four weeks ended Jan. 28, 2006.


Earlier this month, the Secaucus, New Jersey-based company said it had completed a probe of its stock option practices. The investigation found that the company had failed to maintain appropriate internal controls, but there was no conclusive evidence of intentional backdating of options or misconduct.
