Alliance Boots, owner of the iconic chemist chain and employer of 10,000 people in Scotland, yesterday became the latest high-profile British company to fall prey to a private equity stalker.
Kohlberg Kravis Roberts has allied with executive deputy chairman Stefano Pessina to make a bid approach of 1000p per share in cash, a 23% premium to Thursday's closing price of 815p which values the company at 9.7bn.

The identity of the "friendly" potential bidders was revealed last night after the markets had closed.
