A scramble format was used in the first round and best-ball in the second round. "The key to this event is having a good partner, and mine really came through (Thursday)," said Allen, who also won the tournament in 2005.
"Scott hit some great shots and made a lot of putts today. (Wednesday) I had a very good day. (Thursday) was his turn.
" Allen and Ogorek shot 60 in the first round, tying them with Ted Purdy and partner Cricket Musch. The winners took control on the back nine when Allen birdied the 11th hole and Ogorek followed with three straight birdies. "That's what turned it around right there," Allen said.
"Scott was hitting shots so close to the pins that they turned out to be easy birdies. There weren't any that required an incredible putt." Purdy and Musch shot 70 to tie for second along with Jason Gore-Tucker Brown, Pat Perez-Mark Mulder and Stan Utley-Gordy McKeown.
Finishing 4 shots back were teams led by pros Billy Mayfair, Mark Calcavecchia, Paul Casey, Jeff Quinney and Brandel Chamblee. "With the FedEx Cup setup, there probably will be a lot of guys playing early, so it's hard to tell what events I can get in," Allen said. "I'll end up playing quite a few by the end of the year, but until June it might be slim pickings.
