At least 400 metro-east students are expected to view the eagles today from the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge, part of the annual Eagle Days celebration sponsored by Trailnet. The students will attend an eagle education program by the World Bird Sanctuary, then walk onto the bridge to observe the eagles. The Eagle Days will continue this weekend, with the public admitted from 9 a.
m. to 3 p.m.

Cathleen Hughes, a prekindergarten teacher at Kreitner Elementary School in Collinsville, has achieved National Board certification this year. She has been a teacher for 20 years and holds degrees in both elementary education and early childhood.

Six metro-east students were among 10 winners in December of the Do The Right Thing contest which recognizes students for positive behavior. Friday is the deadline for the Elks National Foundation's Most Valuable Student scholarship.
Five hundred high school seniors will be awarded four-year scholarships ranging from $4,000 to $60,000. Applicants do not need to be related to a member of the Elks, and awards are based on scholarship, leadership and financial need. Go to for more information.

GED classes at the Lewis and Clark N.O. Nelson Campus will change beginning Jan.
16. Classes will be held at 1:30-4:30 p.m Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Evening GED classes will be held at 6-8 p.m. Thursdays.
English as a Second Language classes will continue to meet from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Jim Gill, a children's musician, entertained more than 100 families from six schools. The program was funded by Children's Home and Aid. .
