Vanessa Williams, the fake fashion diva

On "Ugly Betty," actress Vanessa Williams plays the kind of character you'd imagine would throw cell phones at maids, underlings, random strangers.
But in real life, Williams must be a nicer person, as on Monday she earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
One day after she turned 44, Williams was joined by family, friends and fans outside the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel for her star ceremony.

Williams won the 1984 Miss America contest, the first black woman so honored. But her career seemed almost over before its start when she was forced to surrender her tiara after it was discovered she had posed for nude photos earlier in her life.
But Williams bounced back with hit albums and roles in movies, television shows and Broadway musicals.

Which could offer hope to recently dumped "American Idol" contestant Antonella Barba, at least until she realizes that, unlike Williams, she actually has no singing talent.

The People column was compiled from Register news services by Peter Larsen who is confident he could tap dance circles around Cliff Clavin and probably the one-legged gold digger too.
