sion Project have been supplied exclusively by local firm Multotec Manufacturing.

The company has supplied some 8 600 modular polyurethane screen panels for the 62 screening applications.

Multotec manufactures and markets polyurethane and wedgewire screening, vibrating screen support frames, trommel screens, static screens, and sievebend housings.

Thirty-six of the screen decks will be equipped with the Multotec saddle top rail system. The saddle top is a polyurethane component, which is fixed to a vertical laser-cut flat-bar runner.

Polyurethane offers the elasticity of rubber combined with the toughness and durability of metal.

The development increases the lifespan of the vibrating screen support frames. It also facilitates compatibility between panels, reduces maintenance and provides an improved interface between the panels and the screen.

This rail system replaces the top section of the conventional angled runners on a vibration screen frame.

The advantage is that once the fastening holes become worn, only the saddle top and not the complete runner system needs replacing. The efficient wear characteristics of the system result in improved life as well as reduced maintenance and down time.

The engineering design of the saddle top supports the internal frame of the screen panel, improving panel stability and life.

It is secured using nylon pins that ensure quality fasten- ing but are still easy to remove when the saddle top needs replacing.

Multotec #x2019;s saddle top can be used on all modular polyurethane screen panel systems and can be retrofitted to the existing screen frames.

#x201C;The design of all the polyurethane panels is centred on overall screening efficiency or the need to achieve metallurgical and mechanical efficiency.

Factors such as wear life, open area and nonblinding characteristics were taken into account, #x201D; says managing director of Multotec Manufacturing Derrick Alston.

Alston says that this is the first time some 500 injection-moulded polyurethane side liners have been supplied by Multotec for a major project.

Traditionally, side liners are hand cast, but in this instance they were injection moulded.

This is a more cost-effective solution and reduces the lead time.

Multotec side liners are specifically designed and supplied with a chamfer, which stops tramming on the top of the liner, thereby substantially reducing wear to the side plate of the screen.
