Former mayoral candidate Clarence Hayward will not appear on the April 17 ballot so long as he files to withdraw by Feb. 15, officials said. Hayward announced Thursday that he will leave the race, saying he had realized he does not have the time to work and serve as mayor.

Kane County Deputy Clerk Jay Bennett said Hayward must file his withdrawal with the Elgin city clerk. "It's nice," he said. "It was unexpected.

" But Schock said he is "going to run a regular campaign." "I'm going to do a mailing, I'm going to put signs out, I'm going to do an ad if I've got money," said Schock, who had raised $13,125 for his re-election effort as of Dec. 31.

"I think it's important to still allow the public to have at me," he said. "It isn't like I can be crowned mayor." All the following events are free and open to the public and will occur on the main campus, at 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.
