Raptors forward Jorge Garbajosa was scheduled to undergo surgery Tuesday in Toronto after suffering a horrific ankle injury in Boston Monday.
The Raptors' Spanish rookie spent Monday night in a Boston hospital after injuring his left ankle in Toronto's 95-87 loss to the Celtics.
Garbajosa was scheduled to see Raptors physician Dr.

Paul Marks and Dr. Johnny Lau, a foot and ankle specialist at Toronto Western Hospital, according to a club spokesperson.
Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo said the team would make a statement about Garbajosa's condition once the operation is completed.

"Clearly we're talking about a fracture and a soft tissue injury," Colangelo said.
Garbajosa suffered the injury with 4:31 left in the fourth quarter as he was chasing down a dunking Al Jefferson. The Spaniard landed awkwardly on his left ankle, which bent the wrong way.

Jefferson winced and immediately turned away in disgust as Garbajosa laid clutching his leg and yelling for help.
Raptors teammate Jose Calderon gently covered Garbajosa's lower leg with a towel before he was taken away on a stretcher. Garbajosa had five points and five rebounds before being hurt.

"He is a big part of our team, so we're definitely going to miss him," Raptors guard T.J. Ford said.

"I hate that it happened because he brings so much to the table.
"On the defensive end, on the offensive end, his knowledge of the game. Man, it's tough.

"
The loss of Garbajosa, who is averaging 8.5 points and 4.9 rebounds this season, is a big blow to a Raptors team that is vying for its first Atlantic Division title in franchise history and its first playoff berth since 2001-02.

"It's not something that you want to experience at this point of the season or any point of the season," Colangelo said. "Obviously Jorge was a big part of everything that we've done … this is the kind of thing that happens in an NBA season.
"It's unpredictable and you try to do what you can to overcome things and that's what the team's focus is right now.

"
The Raptors, who host the Miami Heat on Wednesday, enjoy a six-game lead on the New Jersey Nets in the Atlantic with 12 games to go.
Garbajosa is the latest Raptor to go down injured.
Rookie forward Andrea Bargnani had an appendectomy last Wednesday and is expected to miss the remainder of the regular season.
