Memories are made of this..............: Back in the Old Days......

Growing up, when my parents went out to a friend house, I went along ..everyone brought their kids so it made it a fun time for all .

. Once a month mom and dad would either have, or go to a card party with all their German friends We went to Elmore, Woodville, Tiffin, and there were their friends in Toledo ..

I can remember at our house, when it wasn t a card party, it would be a dance party ..dad would roll up our front room rug .

(back then you had an area rug, with the hard wood on the sides) he would haul the rug on the front porch some would be playing cards and some would be dancing ..What I can t understand is how did I not learn German?

, for they all were gabbing in German .

Growing up alone without a brother or sister would have been pretty lonely if it wasn t for my dog Trixie ..

I would dress Trixie up in baby clothes, push her in a doll buggy, and of course talk to her like she was my best friend ..which I guess you could say she was Mom would sew a lot at the dining room table, while I used the table as a house Trixie and I would set up house under the table and I can remember the radio being on and listening to Amos and Andy and Gildersleeve .

.and depending what time of the day, they had something like a soap opera on, for it was a continued story but I can t remember what it was called I use to love listening to the radio . There was hardly ever music on, it was all talk .

.talk shows back then was like watching a movie ..

except you watched it with your ears now remember that was in the 40 s Every Sat. when I got to be around 12, I had to clean my room. I mean like dust all 100 sets of my salt and pepper shakers that I collected (weird choice for a kid, right?

), and I had around 25 or 30 storybook doll that were on a shelf in my room, hanging on a wall ..now just how much dust could be acquired in just one week?

I had a radio on while cleaning and would listen to my morning radio shows all cleaning had to be done by noon Remember Buster Brown ..the dog in a shoe .

that was a brand of shoes, and they made an add around Buster Brown talking .I use to love it .and the funny thing is my friend Carolyn said that it was her moms voice that played Buster Brown .
