Buttons come in countless materials, sizes and colors. And you can glue or sew them to nearly any project. What embellisher can resist them?

But there are buttons, and then there are buttons -- the ones you love because they are exceptionally beautiful or especially memorable. Don't hide these treasures away! Stitch them to elastic and make a bracelet that gives them a place to be admired and enjoyed by all.

Measure around your wrist. Add 1 inch to this measurement ( 1/2 inch for seam allowance and 1/2 inch for comfort.) Cut the elastic and sew it into a loop.

Sew the first button to the elastic. Without cutting the thread, sew on the next button. For extra security, double your thread and use at least three loops for each button.

Continue until you have filled the elastic entirely, placing small buttons in the spaces between large ones so none of the elastic is visible.
Variations of this classic project include layering buttons or using pieces of costume jewelry instead of the buttons. If you're budget-conscious but love the vintage look, mix new and old buttons, positioning the genuine vintage over the new.
