A Riverhead man, 22, drove a vehicle west in the eastbound lanes of County Route 48 in Peconic Feb. 10. Police stopped the vehicle near the Cutchogue-Mattituck border.

He was arrested and charged with drunken driving, unlicensed driving and driving on the wrong side of a divided highway. An East Hampton man, 32, put $271 in cash in the lid of his propane tank Feb. 7 on Three Mile Harbor Road.

The money was meant to pay for a delivery of propane by his gas company, Hampton Tank. At 3:30 p.m.

that day, the gas company called to say that no delivery had been made because there was no money in the tank. A blue 2004 Lexus, which had been reported stolen from Nesconset Feb. 1, was being driven east on Flanders Road Feb.

7. The driver tried to make a right turn onto Glider Avenue but lost control of the vehicle, which hit a LIPA utility pole. The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled into nearby woods.

An East Argonne Road house was broken into between Feb. 7 and 9; a 20-inch flat-screen television set, a Samsung DVD player and antique jewelry were stolen. A fire broke out Feb.

5 at a Daisy Road home. The Southold Town Police and the Mattituck Fire Department received the call and arrived to find the home fully engulfed in flames, with the owner, a man, 84, still inside. Firefighters entered the house and took the man outside.

He was treated for smoke inhalation and taken to a hospital. A Mattituck man, 24, was arrested Feb. 10 and charged with drunken driving after the vehicle he was operating was involved in an accident on Cox Neck Road.

AT T called a West Lake Drive woman Feb. 2 and told her that she owed approximately $700 to the company on an outstanding telephone bill linked to an address in Miramar, Fla. The woman called the police Feb.

6 to report the incident and said she had never lived in Florida or had an account with AT T. She believes that someone used her name and personal information to open the account. Her Social Security and alien registration card were stolen in 2000.

Two men were arguing over the use of a vehicle Feb. 8 on Old Quogue Road. The police investigated and arrested one of the men, 27, of Riverhead, on a warrant for failing to answer a summons for aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

The other man involved in the argument, 43, of Mastic, got into a 1991 Ford Explorer, which had been reported stolen, and drove off. He was arrested and charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest and drunken driving. The Dragon Garden Chinese restaurant on North Sea Road was broken into through the kitchen Feb.

10; $250 was taken from a cash register. A Southold man, 51, who was being arrested Feb. 9 on County Road 48, refused to put his hands behind his back so he could be handcuffed.

The police had to handcuff him forcibly. He was charged with drunken driving and resisting arrest. An East Hampton woman went to a Clyden Road home to feed cats there Feb.

10. She noticed that the front door lock had been damaged during an attempted burglary. Nothing was reported missing from the house.
